Powder coating is a method of painting products that uses a
powdered plastic resin which is melted onto the part. At State of the
Art we coat both ferrous and nonferrous metals using "Electrostatic
The powder coating process uses a solvent free mix of plastic resins, pigments, and fillers that melt and fuse together when heated. The solid particles of coating are electro statically charged in a spray gun and carried by low velocity air to the surface of the piece being coated. The electrostatic charge holds the powder particles in place while the part is cured in a high temp oven. The heat from the oven causes a chemical reaction to occur and the powder to cure, creating a highly durable finish.(more info)
Powder is available in a wide variety of formulations, textures, gloss levels, and colors. Common formulations applied at State of the Art Powder Coating include; epoxy, hybrid, urethane, polyester, and silicones. Depending on the performance criteria of your specific parts, State of the Art Powder Coating can help you pick the proper formulation for your application.
Virtually any color, texture, and gloss level can be custom matched. Due to the process involved in manufacturing the powder resin, custom colors can be expensive unless the requirement is large. Minimum custom powder orders can range between $300 and $1,200. Typical lead times for custom matches can range anywhere from two to six weeks depending on market conditions.
Our goal at State of the Art Powder Coating is to complete your product and have it ready for shipment within 5 days of receiving your material. Depending on the availability of the materials required to process your order, lead times may vary.
Powder coating is an extremely attractive, durable, scratch resistant, chemical resistant, and UV resistant coating. Depending on the specific formulation applied, each of these properties will vary. In general, epoxies exhibit good mechanical properties but fare poorly in direct sun light. Urethanes and polyesters exhibit excellent weather ability. Silicones exhibit excellent resistance to heat.
Powder coating is a completely dry finishing process used on a wide range of materials and products. It offers improved appearance, exceptional toughness and durability, high quality, colorful, versatile, and long lasting. (more info)
Powder Coating is an environmentally friendly process unlike solvent based wet paint. With EPA regulations growing ever stricter, powder coating is fast becoming the technology of choice. Since the powder coating process does not use solvents in any way, VOC emissions are eliminated.
